गिरिदुर्ग
सह्याद्रीच्या सपाट कातळमाथ्यांवर, सरळसोट कड्यांनी वेढलेले. राजगड, रायगड आणि तोरणा ढगांच्या वरून संपूर्ण खोरी न्याहाळत.Built on the flat basalt tops of the Sahyadri, ringed by sheer cliffs. Rajgad, Raigad and Torna watched whole valleys from above the clouds.
जलदुर्ग
सिंधुदुर्गासारखे बेटांवरील किल्ले कोकण किनाऱ्याचे रक्षण करत आणि सिद्दी व युरोपीय आरमारांपासून नव्या मराठा आरमाराला आसरा देत.Island fortresses like Sindhudurg guarded the Konkan coast and sheltered the young Maratha navy from the Siddis and European fleets.
भुईकोट
कड्यांऐवजी खंदक आणि जाड तटबंदीने राखलेले, मोकळ्या भूमीवरचे किल्ले — मैदाने आणि व्यापारी मार्गांवरील शिबंदी.Forts on open ground, protected by moats and thick walls instead of cliffs — garrisons that held the plains and trade routes.
